Did you know that Angels live among us right here in Gleannloch Farms? You may have an angel living right next door to you, they may walk right past you on the sidewalk, or drive past in their car with a smile and wave.  Or are you the angel without wings? What are we talking about - Pet Angels of course! (I'm sure there are real angels with us as well too!) Over the last several months we have mets some really wonderful Pet Angels right here in the Gleannloch Farms Commmunity!  These men, women and children have given their time, love and money to care of lost, found, hungry, injured, frightened, abandoned, homeless, helpless but not hopeless dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. Birds, turtles, snakes and more! These Angels have opened up their home, hearts and wallets freely to help at a moments notice. There is no compensation, no great rewards offered. Just the love and thanks of the animals they cared for and people they have helped that loved those lost and injured pets! So to all of you Pet Angels - THANK YOU!!

PET ANGEL OF THE MONTH

The Gleannloch Pet Committee wanted to honor some of our Pet Angels that have helped community pets here in Gleannloch Farms. Once word of our website spreads through the community and more neighbors join us hopefully we will be able to change this to Pet Angel of the WEEK! If you know a Pet Angel here in Gleannloch Farms and would like to nominate them for recognition as Pet Angel of the Month here on our website, please send us an email with their name (s), email address and why they are a pet angel. We will then contact them about the nomination.

Gleannloch Farms Pet Angels of the Month December 2008 - Paola & Tamara Moctezuma

We have young Angels living among us!  Paola & Tamara Moctezuma, shown with their dog Milka, are our December 2008 Gleannloch Farms Pet Angels.  Paola and Tamara are very caring individuals who would do anything to help and protect animals.  These wonderful girls recently helped a lost beagle in the neighborhood who noone else could take.  They took photos, made signs on the computer, asked around for the owner and even sat outside on the street in the cold with him sitting in their laps hoping his owner might come claim him.  When that didn't happen they begged their parents to let them take him in for the night.  Their parents couldn't resist their cries of "poor doggy, he must be missing his family terribly; please let us care for him because if our dog gets lost one day, we'd like someone to take good care of her until we could find her." They then fed him and fixed him a cozy, warm place in the garage.  When his owners were located they walked him home in the snow so he could be reunited with his family.  This dog was very lucky to have his Angels, Paola and Tamara, watching out for him. Thank you Paola & Tamara for your loving care of this lost dog !

Everyone Can Be A Pet Angel!! There are many ways that you can helps pets here in Gleannloch Farms, in the Houston Area, Across Texas, and even Across the Country! Everyone can do something! And everything counts when it comes to helping animals!

Ways you can help here in Gleannloch Farms: Be A Responsible Pet Owner ~Have your pet spayed or neutered ~Get regular Vet check ups and all vaccinations ~Register your pet with Harris County ~Make sure your pet has current tags on their collar and wears them at all times when they will be outdoors. ~Never let your dog out without being on a leash - not only is it the law but it keeps your pet safe as well! ~Make sure your backyard is escaped proof. ~Don't let your cats out to roam either - it's not safe for them and it really doesn't make your neighbors very happy either. ~When out for a walk with your dog - always clean up after them if they poop.  Yes, it's yucky - but it's our responsibility as pet owners. ~If your dog MUST live outside please provide a place where the dog can be warm/cool depending on the weather.  Fresh food and water at all times. A soft place to rest. And most importantly - YOU! They MUST have interaction with the family even if they live outside. Be a Kind and Responsible Neighbor ~If you see a neighbors pet running loose try to corral it until it can be returned to it's owner (if the animal is friendly)- email us at Gleannloch Pets immediately if you find a loose pet in the neighborhood. ~Please remember that the speed limit in Gleannloch Farms is 30 MPH!  This applies to the ENTIRE neighborhood (during school hours it's 20 MPH of course near Hassler). Please try to remember that there are many, many animal in our neighborhood that aren't always attached to a leash and they do dash out in front of cars.  (Kids tend to do this as well!!) We have pets that get loose, abandoned animals that are dumped here, wild animals like squirrels, skunks, raccoons and more.  We know we can all get in a hurry but nothing will ruin your day faster than slamming your new Lexus into a large male skunk!!  And nothing will ruin your life and the life our your neighbor more than killing a child that ran in front of your car.

Other Things You Can Do To Be A Pet Angel ~ Consider Joining The ASPCA or The Humane Society of the United States ~Volunteer time or donate money, pet food or other items to locate shelters like Abandoned Animal Rescue or others. ~Next time you are looking for a new pet, think about rescueing a shelter pet rather than buying from a breeder or pet store. The ASPCA does an excellent job of keeping up with current proposed legislation regarding animals.  You can send letters to legislators right from their website, quick and easy!  You can also sign up for email alerts when new legislation is proposed and they need your help in letter writing campaigns! ~ State and Federal Legislation from The Humane Society of the United States.   Very similar to ASPCA above. They do have different bills and more info sometimes.
